Jubilation As Old Students Commission Ultra-modern Projects At Doherty Memorial Grammar School Anniversary.
It was a fanfare of pomp and pageantry in the serene town of Ijero Ekiti as old students of Doherty Memorial Grammar School commissioned several projects on the fourth day of activities to mark the school’s 70th Anniversary and Founder’s Day on Wednesday.
The Special Guest of Honor at the grand commission, Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji who was represented by the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Funmilayo Agboola, who is an indigene of Ijero and daughter of the Ayero of Ijero Kingdom, highlighted the gigantic strides of the iconic school in the Governor’s speech.
“Celebrating 70 years of academic excellence is no small feat. I commend the contributions and commitment of the old students to the advancement of the school. The school founders who established a fountain of knowledge has produced generations of successful achievers in various sectors of life,’ the Governor said.
The Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, who was also a special guest at the occasion said: “Doherty Memorial Grammar School has been and will always be the pride of education in Ekiti State. And it’s amazing that the school is standing strong after 70 years.”
The commissioning of several projects which included new classroom buildings, renovated school principal’s quarters, official opening of the constructed entrance road from the school gate to the administrative block, fine arts studios and a rebuilt modern basketball court was preceded by the Launching of the D.M.G.S. Old Students Association Endowment Fund where a huge sum of over fifteen million naira was raised from generous donations by old students and friends of the school.
