Current principal of the Doherty Memorial Grammar School, Ijero-Ekiti, Bayo Fakiyesi has commended the school’s Old Boys Association (1979 set) for their generous donation of books to the school.
According to the principal, the arrival of the books was a huge boost in the school’s efforts to enhance learning as well as equip the students’ for all-round human capacity development.
Mr Fakiyesi also used the opportunity to praise the same set of the school’s former students for their earlier gesture in repainting the tomb of the first principal, Pa G. Olu Fagbeyiro as part of their efforts to give the school a facelift.
“I wish to hereby express my sincere appreciation to the executive committee and indeed all members of the 1979 set of the DMGS Old Boys Association for their generous donation of books to our school. Their kind gesture is commendable and will greatly benefit our students’ academic pursuits,” Fakiyesi said.
“We are also grateful for previous efforts of this particular set in repairing the tomb of the late first principal and renovating the basketball court. Their continued support and dedication to improving our school are deeply appreciated,” he added.
He also prayed for each of the members of the Old Boys Association, asking for God’s blessings and guidance upon their lives.

Young Olalekan Nelson, a student of the Doherty Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Ijero-Ekiti who recently benefitted from Senator Opeyemi Bamidele’s recent ICT programme in Ekiti State is happy that he made the list of those counted worthy of the honour.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the leader of the Ekiti National Assembly Caucus, recently ran a training and empowerment programme that saw six selected secondary schools, including DMGS, participating in his bid to support governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts in improving education in Ekiti State.
During a recent training and empowerment programme in Ado Ekiti, Senator Bamidele donated desktop computers to six secondary schools in Ekiti Central. In addition, he facilitated copyright sensitization training for 500 students from these schools to encourage creativity and independent thinking.
Represented by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Hon. Gbenga Banji, Senator Bamidele emphasized the significance of ICT education at basic and secondary levels as it prepares students for computer-based tests now being increasingly used by examination bodies like the West African Examinations Council.
He commended Governor Oyebanji’s efforts to revitalize the education sector through increased budgetary allocation in the 2024 budget. Senator Bamidele also expressed his commitment to partnering with the state government to elevate education in Ekiti State.
He praised other educational initiatives such as constructing more model schools, providing laptops for teachers, recruiting over 2,000 teachers for primary and secondary schools, and sustaining free education policies.
“I am happy that I was listed to be part of the ICT training and empowerment programme recently organised by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele. I thank him for his support. I have learned some new computer skills that will no doubt help me in my future academic pursuits, particularly in computer-based examinations in the future,” young Nelson said.
Olalekan also urged Senator Bamidele to continue such programmes to broaden it’s scope as well as give other students the opportunity to participate.
